February 22nd, 2007 - Joseth

Ok, I’ve noticed that there is a lot of time between each up-date, but it should be going better from now on… We still have no internet in the apartment, but after a lot of effort we have a computer. So I’ve been working days at the computer to make mails and to work at this BLOG, put it on my memory stick, so the only thing I have to do when I’m in the library (or at work next week) is plug the memory stick in to the computer and press ‘send’, it saves me a lot of time which I don’t have at the library, but I do have in the apartment.

 

- 18feb2007; While everyone in Mook is preparing for the ‘carnaval’, we begin with our shift. In the morning phoned with my mum, who is still busy sewing the special suits, which are needed in the parade from that day. I’m glad to hear she still is looking forward to this festival.

- 19feb2007; A text message from my sister, my mum is awarded to ‘Woman of the year’, they couldn’t have picked a better moment. Although they had to convince her, the choice was made a while ago, and not changed the last week.

- 21feb2007; At the end of our shift, we went home as soon as possible, refreshed ourselves, and went to the city centre… a little dinner (or tea, if you prefer) at ‘Burger King’ (this is the first time we have fast food since we’re in the UK) and afterwards to ‘The Barracuda’ bar, to see the football game ‘Barcelona – Liverpool’. The order I’ve finally made after half an hour, is not the one I’ve meant it to be, Annemieke who has planned to go to Holland the next day (so will not be staying long) didn’t want a drink after ½ liter of soda which came with the menu, and the ‘Stella Artois’ for Christof and a pint for me turned out to 3 pints due to Happy hour. So I think that’s clear enough. Although Liverpool won with 1-2, we went home pretty soon after the match, it was very nice, specially to see and hear the reaction from all the football lovers, but it is too much after 4 days of 12 hours. (On the moment I’m making this up-date (03mar2007), Christof is in the city centre again to see the match Liverpool – Manchester)

- 22feb2007; Today first cleaned the house, and afterwards I went to the library for internet, and shopping in the city centre, I spend again to much money, but I like it to send some postcards instead of only mail. On my way back, stopped again at the library and went ‘home for dinner’. In the evening to the cinema with Christof, this time we did see ‘Hot Fuzz’, we wanted to see this one last week, but it was sold. I’m not really a comedy fan, but I liked this one, it was a very surprising story…

- 23feb2007: In the morning with Christof groceries at ASDA, and followed by reading on the couch in a book of John Grisham. I don’t get a grip on the story, it’s the fourth time I’ve started, and there are too many people involved in this story. In the afternoon I forced myself to the little library in Toxteth, I don’t get response within the ‘free’ hour on my request to receive some attention. Back to the couch, lucky enough I managed to get the TV working last week (after we finally got all the cables complete) this gives some distraction, but to say it properly ‘it wasn’t my lucky day’

-24feb2007: Today I’m feeling better, first I’ve stepped for 45min, and afterwards finally found some peace to write in my notebook, and order my thoughts. After eaten some sandwiches, I’ve put on my walking shoes and followed the river for quit a while. It feels good to see all the fishermen, most of them say hello or start a conversation, after walking in a city for a couple of weeks, where people don’t even say sorry when you bump in to each other. I enjoyed the wind in my hair and the sun on my face, and I’ve made some beautiful pictures. In the evening I looked in the map where I’ve been walking (till Otterspoon), I think the total walk was approx. 10km

- 25feb2007: My emotions keep going up and down, and I’m not really in the mood to find things to do, lucky I’ve made a list in front of all the walking events in the city. So in the afternoon walked to the ‘Toxteth’ library, and participated a ‘guided City walk tour’, the theme was ‘Digging up the past’ learn about medieval Liverpool in its original streets. It was a nice one, because a lot of places where I’ve been the past time, are getting some background, and also to know where street names come from. When I came home, there was a new adventure.. The hot water tap in the kitchen was broken, and the water kept on running. This story cost me a lot of effort (and probably a very expensive phone bill) the effort which I didn’t have at that moment. And which caused a lot of tense situations, because I couldn’t handle it very well. Lucky enough is it solved now (after Christof went ‘home’ 2 times during shift), I don’t want to think about it again, and I just wasn’t in the mood.

- 28feb2007; finally… it takes a long time when you have to wait, today the results of the hospital, the results are not good, although it makes an end to most of the uncertainties. Now they can see what has to be done, what treatment is needed, en when to start. It’s good to know that they are working on it, and care. I think I’m going to find out when to go home for a couple of days. It drives me crazy, being here all alone.

- 01mar2007: The shift is finished; we’ve opened a bottle of wine, and a bottle of beer, and really had a good time with the three of us, felt good….

- 02mar2007: Today I didn’t do much, worked behind the computer most part of the day, in the afternoon walked to the Toxteth library, and in the evening Christof and I went to the cinema (I like it, we’ve already build up some nice habits). We’ve went to ‘The good Shepherd’ (movie with Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie), an impressive but little bit difficult movie, I don’t think I understood it all, because sometimes I missed the connection, this one I’ve to rent in Holland again so I can see it with subtitles.

The rest of the weekend you will read next time, I’ve planned a walking trail for tomorrow inn Wales; I’m really looking forward to it… I hope I don’t will be disappointed (18 miles, rough area) to be continued….

22 Feb 2007 - Joseth

Tijd voor een up-date: Waar waren we gebleven, 09feb2007. Het is dus meer dan 3 kwartier lopen van de centrale bieb naar het appartement… maar ik moet zeggen ik doe het graag, eerst lekker door de stad, daar is altijd zoveel te zien, en daarna lekker langs het water, heelijk uitwaaien (en vaak nat regenen). 10 feb2007 weer met de shift begonnen, er is een onderdeel van een apparaat bij de analytische groep kapot, dus meekijken met de tech. transfer is op een laag pitje gezet. Maar dat betekend niet dat er niet genoeg te doen is. Het is ongelovelijk hoeveel ‘environmental monitoring’ er gedaan wordt, en hoeveel platen er constant in behandeling zijn. Maar het is wel heel leuk om te doen, zeker nu ikzelf wat beter de weg weet, en niet alles meer hoef te vragen. Deze shift heeft het watersysteem stil gestaan, dit hield dus in 3 dagen volledig testen… alsof we nog niets te doen hadden, maarja heb ik alles wel gelijk goed kunnen oefenen. En deze shift mijn ‘gowning’ voor de productieruimtes gehad, dus als die volgende week goed blijken te zijn, zijn we ook weer een stapje verder. Verder weinig te vertellen over de tijd buiten de shift, naar huis rijden, eten koken, opruimen en afwassen, brood smeren voor de volgende dag en naar bed… meer houd het eigenlijk niet in.

Woensdag 14feb2007; Ik had een boek besteld (een reisverslag, gezien in een wandel magazin) en dat was binnen, dus dat ben ik gaan ophalen in de stad. Ik ga 04mar met een wandelroute meedoen, en aangezien je die van te voren moet betalen, ben ik bij het postkantoor een Postal order gaan halen (wat je zo allemaal niet leert he? je wordt overal steeds handiger in). Daarna na de centr.bieb om te internetten, en het Liverpool Museum afgemaakt. ’s avonds met Christof weer helemaal terug naar het centrum want we zijn weer naar de bioscoop geweest, we wilde naar ‘Hot Fuzz’ maar die was uitverkocht, dus nu naar ‘Blood Diamonds’ geweest, film met Leonardo di Caprio over de diamanten smokkel in Afrika (geen topfilm, maar wel mooi om te zien).

Donderdag 15feb2007: Vandaag rondgelopen en overal foto’s van gemaakt, daarna naar het ‘08 centrum’ (soort VVV) om alvast te informeren voor het bezichtigen van de radio toren op zaterdag. Deze blijkt tot in het voorjaar geen bezichtigingen meer te doen, en de 2 die nog gedaan werden zaten al vol, dat wordt dus uitstellen… wel een kaartje gekocht voor de toren van de Ang.Cathedral. De kerk stond zowiezo al op mijn lijstje, dus nu vanaf daar maar van het uitzicht genoten en foto’s gemaakt => de ‘Marina docks’ waar onze appartementen zijn ziet er vanaf daar wel heel leuk uit, ik hoop dat de foto’s een beetje gelukt zijn. T.o.v. de ‘Metrop.Cathedral’ is deze toch wel veel mooier, en naar mijn mening ook veel meer kerk (al weet ik niet precies, hoe ik dat zou omschrijven). Daarna naar huis, en daar lekker hutspot gemaakt, heerlijk… ’s avonds weer netjes gestept, en daarna maar weer eens in het boek van John Grisham begonnen.

Vrijdag 16feb2007: ’s ochtends rustig aan gedaan, wat kaarten geschreven en wat gelezen, en ’s middags naar het ‘Maritime Musea’ geweest, dit was wel aardig, maar viel tegen… Er zijn verschillende verdiepingen, die wel allemaal op scheepvaart gericht zijn, maar onderling weinig met elkaar te maken hebben. En het verschil van niveau was dan ook duidelijk merkbaar. ’s avonds telefoontje van thuis met slecht nieuws, dan wordt je je er weer bewust van, hoe betrekkelijk het eigenlijk allemaal is… dat je de ene keer van een stad en een nieuwe omgeving kan genieten, maar dat je je er ook heel eenzaam kunt voelen. Wel prettig om langs het water te wonen, en dan naar buiten te kunnen om uit te waaien.

Zaterdag 17feb2007: Een pieker dag gehad… onzekerheid, hoe wil ik nu verder, eerst maar afwachten hoe het allemaal gaat lopen. Ik kan nu toch weinig doen. ’s ochtends met z’n drieen boodschappen gedaan en de eerste foto’s ontwikkeld. En ’s middags een ‘City walk tour’ gedaan, met als thema chinees nieuwjaar, was wel heel leuk om te zien hoe dit in andere culturen voorbereid en gevierd wordt. Voor de rest nog even naar de bieb en vroeg naar bed… het weekend zat er weer op.

De afgelopen shift was rommelig, slechte concentratie… en heel wat afgebeld, en toch wel wat nog van de carnaval kunnen proeven. Ik heb het van te voren veel gemist, maar ik ben blij dat ik er nu niet tussen hoefde te lopen, ik geloof niet dat ik in de stemming zou zijn. Al moet ik zeggen dat ik het wel heel fijn vond om gisteren een mailtje van Jan Boot te ontvangen met foto’s ‘een mookse sfeer impressie’ (dank je wel Jan).

Dit was het voor nu, hopenlijk tot gauw.

February 14th, 2007 - Annemieke

He, he, finally an other piece added…

To speak with different terms, again enjoying 4 days off. Yesterday was our last day of the shift and now we can prepare us for the next one. In manufacturing we can notice this is the beginning of the production campaign, next week the first run is scheduled, and it is getting busier. Last days were better to work, still not busy, but more to do. If I’m right we’ve finished our (basic) trainings, results will be available next week. We shall see, I don’t expect any problems.

Everything is just going on, today the weather is fine, so when I’ve finished this I’m going outside to enjoy the weather, last ‘weekend’ almost every day it wasn’t good, snow and rain

Yesterday I’ve arranged everything for my trip home next week, 4 days home! I’m really looking forward to it, together with Menno for a while; I’m counting the days sneaky…

Not much news so far, I’m going to find out what plans I’m going to make for these days, probably not to much… Relaxing, Greetings, Annemieke

14 februari 2007 Annemieke

he he, eindelijk weer een stukje erbij… :-)

Met andere woorden, weer lekker 4 dagen vrij. Gisteren was onze laatste dag van de shift en nu kunnen we dus weer even opladen voor de volgende. In productie is het nu toch wel een beetje te merken dat we aan het begin van de productieperiode staan, volgende week staat de eerste run op het programma en langzamerhand wordt het ook wat drukker. De laatste dagen gewoon lekker bezig geweest, nog steeds erg op het gemak, maar wel meer om handen. Als het goed is hebben we nu ook onze basistrainingen afgerond, volgende week krijgen we de uitslag, we zullen het wel zien, ik verwacht in elk geval geen problemen.

Verder gaat hier ook alles gewoon zijn gangetje, het is vandaag lekker weer, dus als ik met dit stukje klaar ben ga ik ook weer lekker naar buiten, even van het mooie weer genieten, vorig ‘weekend’ hadden we namelijk bijna elke dag minder weer, sneeuw en regen.

Gisteren ook alles in orde gemaakt om volgende week lekker 4 dagen naar huis te gaan! Ik heb er ook echt even zin in, even lekker thuis samen met Menno. Ik ben stiekum toch wel een beetje daar naar toe aan het aftellen… :-)

Eigenlijk niet veel nieuws dus, ik ga straks nog maar eens bedenken wat ik allemaal wil gaan doen deze dagen, waarschijnlijk niet al te veel… Lekker uitrusten. Groeten, Annemieke

10 Feb 2007 - Joseth

Ik heb net zoveel mogelijk mensen foto’s doorgestuurd, mocht dit niet gelukt zijn, graag even laten weten. Ik ben vandaag de kabel van mijn telefoon vergeten, dus de foto’s van het nieuwe appartement (en mijn nieuwe coupe) volgen morgen. Voor jullie een fijn weekend en tot gauw. Gr. Joseth

09 Feb 2007 - Joseth

Nog even een vervolg op gisteren om het beeld compleet te krijgen, want als je zo een verslag aan het maken bent, dan willen er nog wel eens dingen tussen glippen. Zo ben ik vergeten te zeggen dat ik dus ondertussen auto gereden heb; Afgelopen dinsdag (06 feb) hebben we boodschappen gedaan (en Christof was naar Nederland), dus Annemiek heeft heen gereden en ik terug, hebben we allebei kunnen oefenen. En woensdag (07 feb) ben ik dus alleen naar het werk geweest, met de auto… Ik vind het fijn om te weten dat ik het voor elkaar krijg, maar dat ik er nu plezier in heb, is weer teveel gezegd, dus ik zal niet veel rijden, maar het betekend wel dat ik niet afhankelijk van de andere ben mocht het nodig zijn.Voor de rest kwam Lisa (volgens mij; Bell) van de analytische groep UK, van de week naar me toe, of ik dinsdag met haar mee zou kunnen kijken naar de testen van de Ethyol Tech. transfer, omdat er te grote verschillen zouden zijn. James Wong had dit voorgesteld, dus dat vond ik wel leuk om te horen, en natuurlijk leuk om te doen. Ik hoop dat er tijd voor is, want het is nog steeds heel druk op micro, het is natuurlijk wel raar om een dag overtime te doen, en dan wel een dag aan analytisch kunt besteden. Maar daar ga ik niet over… ik hoor wel wat ze voor me in petto hebben. Oja, resultaat kapper… een nieuwe coupe, en een nieuwe kleur, ik weet niet hoe ik deze moet omschrijven het is een beetje bruin/rood/paars. Ik heb geprobeerd om de foto’s in dit blog te krijgen, maar dat lukt nog niet, dus ik zal morgen wat mailtjes gaan versturen met foto’s zodat jullie in ieder geval een idee krijgen, (mocht je geen mailtje van me krijgen, en wel geinteresseerd zijn, laat het dan even weten via dit blog of via muldersj@medimmune.com). Verder weinig nieuws, ik ben net in de stad geweest, en ben nu in de centrale bieb, dit betekent dat ik nu op weg naar ‘huis’ ga door de regen, en ongeveer 40 min. (als het niet meer is) te gaan heb… gelukkig heb ik wel al een paraplu aangeschaft. Voor jullie allemaal een prettig weekend, en hopenlijk tot gauw

February 9th, 2007 - Joseth

Yesterday’s story continued to get the whole picture completed, because when you’re making an overview like this, there will be things forgotten. So didn’t I mentioned that I’ve driven our car; Last Tuesday (06feb) we went out for groceries (and Christof was in Holland), Annemiek drove the way to the shop, and I drove the way back, so we both could practice. And Wednesday (07feb) I went alone to work by car… it’s good to know I can manage, but I don’t like it, so I’ll not drive that much, but it means that I don’t have to depend on the others when it is necessary. Also Lisa (I think her surname is Bell) from the analytical group UK, came to me the other week, with the question if it was possible to assist a day at the analytical department to see the tests of the Ethyol Tech. transfer, because the difference was to high. This was a proposal from James Wong, so I thought that would be nice. I hope there is time, because we’re very busy at Micro, I think it’s strange to work a day in ‘overtime’, and will have time for analytical. But it’s not for me to decide…I will hear it. Oh almost forgot, result of hairdresser…a new coupe, a new color, I don’t know what it is called, it’s a mixture of brown/red/purple. I’ve tried to add pictures to this blog, but it didn’t work, so I’ll sent some mail tomorrow with pictures so you will have an idea, (if you don’t receive mail, and want to see the pictures, just let me know, add a comment to this blog, or mail to muldersj@medimmune.com). This was the news, this afternoon I’ve been in the city centre, and now I’m in the library, this means I’ve to go ‘home’ in the rain, for a walk of appr. 40 min. (if it is not more), but with good luck I already bought an umbrella…For all of you enjoy your weekend, and hopefully I’ll speak to you soon.

February 8th, 2007 - Joseth

Today at least I found some time; After a busy time at work, and a move from apartment in a shift (which caused a lot of stress) we’re finally arrived in the new apartment. Very strange, especially for Christof who planned this weekend to go to Holland. The first day of the weekend (06feb) used to get installed in the apartment, and do some groceries. The second day (07feb) I went back to work to do overtime from 07.00 till 18.00h, it is very busy at QC and someone wanted a day off. Most of the people here are working overtime to get all the work finished, and I’m part of the group. Today (08feb) I’ve planned a relaxing day… this morning I got up, and the sky was grey filled with snow (Christof had delays the day before yesterday, so I’m curious when he’s able to fly home). First I took a shower and afterwards I had my breakfast -> I found something that looks like ‘Brinta’. Putted on my walking shoes en went to the library with AnneMiek (it’s a different one than ‘central’ before, and it takes more time to get there, then when we were in the city centre, about 25min walk). We filled in an application form for a tempory membership, I think we’ll here be more often, because it is very nice to have access to the internet, although I’m still hoping to get internet arranged at the apartment, because it takes a lot of time to sent ‘proper’ e-mails to everyone, to keep this blog/web log up-to-date, and to find some useful information. I already found a lot of things where I want to know more about, yesterday I bought a magazine with walking trails in the Lake District, I’m already looking forward to it… For this afternoon I have planned to go a hairdresser, that will be challenge, in Holland I already find it difficult to explain what I want, and now I have to do it in English (If we manage to get some pictures in this blog, I’ll show you the result). And maybe to do some little shopping. Then we’ve to walk back to the apartment, and that will be it for today, maybe I can see if AnneMiek wants to play ‘Carcassonne’ a bord game (they already know most of my games; ‘Carcassonne’, ‘Perudo’, and ‘Sequence’) that’s what I like of having much ‘free’ time… That becomes a problem when I’m back in Holland. For tomorrow there is nothing special on the program; I think the weather will not be good enough for a ‘Duck Tour’ or ‘the Mersey Ferry’, but I also want to go to ‘the Maritime Museum’, and in the city centre I didn’t finish all of the museum… It’s good that I’ve lots of time to spend over here.
